Celebrating the 4-Year Anniversary of His Life-Saving Liver Transplant

Matthew E BrittThe Virginia Partnership for Gaming and Health at Virginia Commonwealth University is proud to recognize and celebrate one of our staff, Matthew Britt, Certified Peer Recovery Specialist (CPRS-PG), on the four-year anniversary of his life-saving liver transplant. This milestone is not only a testament to his strength and perseverance, but also a powerful reflection of the healing journey he has embraced—and now shares with others.

Matthew's path through recovery and mental wellness has shaped his deep commitment to helping others navigate their own challenges. VCU played a pivotal role in his life, providing not only critical medical care, but also inspiring his mission to give back to the community. As a CPRS, Matthew offers nonjudgmental and unwavering support to those entering recovery. His work is rooted in empathy, experience, and a belief that no one should have to suffer alone.

Beyond his CPRS role, Matthew is also certified as a Forensic Peer Specialist Trainer of Trainers, a Mindfulness-Based Stress Reduction practitioner, and an Acudetox Specialist. He is pursuing a degree in Psychology with a minor in Human Services from Old Dominion University, and he holds an associate's degree in Psychology from Germanna Community College—demonstrating his lifelong dedication to learning and growth.

Reflecting on his journey, Matthew shares that five years ago, he was in a place where he couldn't have imagined managing the challenges he now faces with strength and clarity. His priorities have shifted, his perspective has deepened, and his gratitude is unwavering. As he says, I'm simply grateful to be around to talk about my experience. Nothing gets me off kilter.

Matthew, your story inspires us, and your compassion uplifts those around you. Thank you for your service, your strength, and your commitment to healing.

We appreciate you, Matt.
